The Human Resources Department is responsible for the hiring, promotional and disciplinary processes for City departments, excluding Health and the Public Library. The City has a workforce of approximately 300 employees and offers a variety of challenging career opportunities. Position openings with the City are here and advertised in local newspapers. Entrance examinations are conducted every three years for police officer and firefighter positions in order to maintain a list of qualified candidates. The department is responsible for labor contract negotiations and administers a variety of policies that afford protection to our employees as well as various benefit programs. The Department is also responsible for overseeing the City's insurance programs and worker compensation coverage.
