The Englewood Police Department, Hackensack Police Department and Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office are jointly investigating a series of sexual assaults and other possibly related incidents that have occurred in both Englewood and Hackensack over the last two months. In both jurisdictions, adult females were approached from the rear by an unknown male actor who would grab the victims from behind and either sexually assault them or attempt to sexually assault them. All the incidents occurred on public streets as the victims were walking and some incidents occurred near the victims residences. The majority of the incidents occurred during evening hours between approximately 5:30 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. At least two incidents occurred in the morning hours in Englewood, New Jersey. The suspect description has varied between a dark skinned male to a brown skinned male, early to late 20's, 5’08” – 6’01”, thin to medium build and wearing dark colored clothing. Due to the similar characteristics of each assault and incident, police are investigating whether the perpetrator is the same person in both the Englewood and Hackensack assaults and is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and apprehending the actor.
Police are asking that females who are walking alone be alert of their surroundings and to immediately contact the police if they see anyone suspicious near them.
